Topic/Skill: questions, modals of ability; grammar

Teacher Presentation: Ryan Flemming

Classroom Management: small class of about seven students. Students were not sitting together because of social distancing but still worked together for group activities. Students were able to speak aloud whenever they had a question and Mr. Ryan would answer and then continue with his explanation.

Materials: assignments on canvas, PowerPoint presentation, poll on zoom

Student Participation: students wrote about their daily routines and then compared with other students. They then came up with similarities and differences in their routines and submitted this. Students also worked on listening skills by determining if spoken sentences were about Mr. Ryan or his daughter, Eleanor, or both.

Feedback Provided: Mr. Ryan explained when the wrong verb tense was used and why it was wrong, then explained the right answer. He also corrected pronunciation a few times. Mr. Ryan gave positive reinforcement when students got an answer right but still stayed positive when they got one wrong.

Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: I learned to talk slower than I normally would but not super slow and to give pauses in speaking to allow students time to process your words. I also learned to use visual clues to help students better understand what you mean when you’re speaking.
