Date/Time: May 3, 2021. 1:00-1:50pm

Topic/Skill: Speaking

Teacher Presentation: Felicia Ciapetta

Classroom Management: Professor Ciapetta zoomed into the course while Patrick Kennell, the program director, was in person to facilitate the class. All students joined on zoom, even the in-person students. The class began with a short bell ringer activity and then students interviewed the new people in class.

Materials: Zoom, camera, google docs

Student Participation: All students logged into zoom and participated in a bell ringer activity, which had questions about different things/words to say in different situations. They spoke with each other about the questions. Next, students had to interview the new people that were in class that day with a mixture of questions pre-written and questions they had to make up on the spot.

Feedback Provided: After students answered questions, Professor Ciapetta gave students positive affirmation that they were doing well with saying things like “yes, very good!” and “close, very good, I like that you’re trying.” She elaborated on certain points that were important.

Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: I learned that having students correct their own mistakes can be very helpful for them and having them try to correct it a few times is also good. After the interview activity, students shared their answers and rather than correct them throughout the time they were speaking, she took notes and wrote down mistakes, put them in a google doc, and the next activity was to correct the mistakes.
