Date/Time: Thursday, May 6, 10:00-10:50 a.m.

Topic/Skill: Grammar

Teacher Presentation: Sentence Structure Document

Classroom Management: Ryan Flemming

Materials: Sentence Structure document, Projector, Marker, Previous Homework Assignment

Student Participation: Today, I joined Ryan Flemmings class where he taught his students correct grammar. This class differed from the last one in that it seemed as though he was teaching lower level students. It was interesting to see the difference in teaching methods for a class that did not speak English as well. He used much more hand movements and articulated his thoughts much more clearly so that everyone understood. He would typically repeat anything he said so that he made sure to get his points across. One thing I really liked about his teaching methods was the fact that he would not simply tell students they were wrong if they made a mistake and proceed to correct them. He would say something like "Hmmm, I don't understand?" so that they could then correct themselves. It was conducive of a more effective learning experience. His class was very collaborative, allowing the students to work together and share stories through assignments. It was very cool to see them gradually figure grammatical errors out, even with the toughest problems.
