Feedback Provided to Tutee: I noticed that he also tends to use the verbal filler "uhh" or "uhm" a lot which could potentially be something we work on down the road. Our tutoring sessions will really be geared at practicing normal conversation and I will try to evaluate the various errors that he tends to make as he speaks. I told him that his English speaking skills are great compared to others and that I am very excited to be working with him.
Lessons about the tutoring and/or the tutee that you learned: Today's first tutoring session left me with a smile on my face! I spent way too many hours obsessing over how this first session would go, as I tend to always overthink things for some reason. However, as soon as Do-jun got on the call, my anxiety dissipated and we proceeded to have a great conversation. We started the session by just getting to know each other a bit. He is from Pusan but moved to Seoul after he graduated high school to pursue a college experience and now works for an airline company called Jeju Air. I performed research on the baked goods industry of South Korea this previous semester and he laughed at my absolute butchering of pronunciation of the company Paris Baguette. As we moved into his language acquisition goals, I learned that his main motives for learning English included being able to converse with others as he traveled to countries that were primarily English speaking and to be able to use English while he was on the job, as they mainly converse in English. He likes to listen to English podcasts and watch English documentaries to work on his listening and he would like to work on his small talk and the grammatical errors in his speech.
