Topic/Skill: Casual Conversation Tactics

Feedback Provided to Tutee: In the beginning of class, I started by asking him to describe Mother's Day for me and how it differed from Mother's Day in American culture. I wrote down any grammar mistakes that he made along the way and we reviewed them after our conversation was over. We then watched aprt of an episode from "Modern Family" that had to do with Mother's Day. As we went through, I would check his comprehension and ensure that he understood some of the slang usage within the video. Afterwards, we went over the grammar and new vocab that we had learned.

Lessons about the tutoring and/or the tutee that you learned: In this lesson, I learned that there actually isn't a "Mother's Day' in South Korea. It is called Parent's Day and is meant to celebrate both of the parents and everything they have done for their children rather just the mother or just the father. I also learned that, in the month of May, they have many other holidays such as Teacher's Day and Student's Day. I found that my lesson was actually too long and that, when watching videos, it takes much longer to go through all of the intricate parts of the grammar and complex vocabulary words than you would think. I found it more useful to go through, in more detail, a smaller portion of the video than everything at once.
