Topic/Skill: Grammar in Use / Listening Exercise

Feedback Provided to Tutee: We started today's session by going over various grammatical mistakes that DoJun had made in the last class. We spent time going, in detail, through things like missing articles, using the wrong tense and response to questions and how to use might in a sentence. We then went into correcting a few pronunciation errors from the class before which was primarily targeted at assisting him with words that have the letter 'l' in it (i.e. related, culture, children). Finally, we did a listening exercise where I read through a script and he listened, writing down areas that I had left blank. I then had him reread the entire script and corrected him where errors were made. 

Lessons about the tutoring and/or the tutee that you learned: Today, I found out that DoJun is having a baby in a month! He was extremely excited and couldn't be more happy about having a girl. We had a discussion around strollers and talked about what life with a baby would be like. I felt much more confident in my teaching abilities after today's session. It went extremely smooth and I learned to facilitate a lesson without a film or YouTube clip. I learned to be more articulate in my explanations and gave DoJun more time to respond to questions. I found that, again, my lesson was too packed with information and we went over the time limit. I will continue to try to make my lessons more focused.

He recently moved and started a new job so he hasn't had to much free time to talk. He filled me in on what he had been doing and was curious how I had been spending my summer vacation. After I had told him it was mostly sleeping and playing video game our conversation moved in that direction. Zhewei told me about a lot of different games I had never heard of that were all developed in Taiwan. He also told me about which video games are most popular in Taiwan right now. Date/Time: 08/07/21 10:00 AM Location: Conversation  over Line  Topic/Skill: TOEFL Writing Prep, Free Talk Feedback provided to tutee: Since I had started talking with Yenzhou in a teaching capacity and not just as friends he has expressed a great desire  to practice his English as much as he can. To this end, I had him start keeping a daily journal in English. He has done a very good job with keeping up with it and he feels it has really helped his writing  ability. This meeting however; I wanted to put his new found writing  skills to the test, so jumped straight into an opinion essay. Yenzhou did very well, he only had minimal grammatical or spelling errors and elaborated well on his topic. After the essay we decided to chat.
