Feedback Provided to Tutee: Before this tutoring session, DoJun reached out to me about a sentence that he did not understand which was "The coronavirus has forced the hand of companies around the world". We began class by going over this and went through a few examples. We then typically start our sessions going through notable grammar mistakes that he made in the class prior. I let him read through the mistakes that he made, then allowing him to work through the sentence and correct his own mistakes, offering assistance when needed. After going through an article and the difficult grammar found within it, I allowed DoJun to work through a few of the vocabulary words and difficult phrases by having him come up with his own creative responses to questions that would elicit each specific word or phrase. As he went through these, I would offer different ways that he could say he sentence or additional information that he could include. I made sure to let him figure out each sentence on his own though at the same time.
Lessons about the tutoring and/or the tutee that you learned: This ended up being one of the more fun sessions that DoJun and I have had throughout this experience. I saw that, while it was difficult for him, he enjoyed the opportunity to be creative as he formulated his own answers and statements at the end of our session. I've seen him become more and more engaged as I have been able to gauge his interests in various topics and discussions. When I find something that he is very interested in, such as today's discussion on the Olympics in Tokyo this year, it is really cool to see how much more confident he seems throughout the lesson. I will continue to find ways to make these lessons relevant and interesting for DoJun as we move forward.
