Date/Time: May3rd from 1:00 P.M. to 1:50 P.M.

Topic/Skill: (Impromptu) Speaking Skills

Teacher Presentation: Time Speaking

Classroom Management: Dr. Rios managed the classroom atmosphere by engaging with students through the use of comedic stories and by maintaining a refreshing attitude. During the activity he made sure every student engaged by letting students volunteer to speak. After the first activity ended, he ensured everyone participated by having the students who did not previously volunteer speak first. Aside from this, he also always helped students when they were having difficulties.

Materials: Dr. Rios utilized screen-sharing in order to accommodate for his online and in person students. Every (in-person) student had a physical copy of this document. The document incorporated aids and examples in order to help with the speaking assignment. It also had tables that were organized. As each student presented he wrote down the major points of their speeches. After each student finished their speech, he discussed what they said. He made sure to be positive, but also give constructive feedback. Foe example, there were two prompts given. One prompt was "Sports are difficult." He discussed that for this prompt, students needed to state "I agree" or "I disagree" when they first introduce the topic in their speeches. However, when they transitioned to their next prompt, the prompt stated "Is love more important than money?" which is now in the form of a question. For this prompt, students would not begin their speech with "I agree" or "I disagree," but rather, "Yes" or "No." Not only did one student have a question regarding these differences, but he was clear about such difference. Due to this class time being focused on a speaking assignment, Dr. Rios did not use any other materials for class. But, his document was clear, insightful, and interactive. I liked how he wrote the main points in a table in order to properly evaluate each student's outline. His outline for the students showed that each student needed to incorporate the following in their speeches: (1) name, (2) topic, (3) opinion, (4) reasons/examples, and (5) conclusions.

Student Participation: Not only did Dr. Rios ensure every student participated, but every student wanted to do so during class. Students actively participated with each other and Dr. Rios. Although this activity was not inherently a collaborative activity, the students were encouraging of one another. For example, when one student volunteered, it led another to do the same. I could really tell each student was being supportive of each other. Everyone also was incredibly interesting in each other's speeches, as much of it was opinion based. They remained respectful. They were all excited to listen to each person's speech. The way everyone engaged made me even want to participate. Dr. Rios also encouraged me to introduce myself in the beginning of the class. I loved every minute of it!
