Date/Time: May 6, 2021 from 2:00 P.M. to 2:50 P.M.

Topic Skills: Listening Skills

Teacher Presentation: Felicia Ciapetta

Classroom Management: This class was a mixture of level two and level three students. For this class, the instructor placed students into different breakout rooms. In the breakout rooms, they would have about six minutes to answer a set of questions with their partner. For example, one of the questions was "What is the difference between media and technology?". After the time ended, students would return to the main room where the instructor would review each question. She asked different students different questions each time. If a student did not fully answer the question, she would ask if another student could help. She ensured to be optimistic and positive with each student. When they finished reviewing, the instructor informed the students on the listening activity. She gave a lecture three times. The first time, she only wanted to students to listen. The second time she wanted students to listen and take notes using the Cornell Method. The last time she gave the lecture, she wanted everyone to finish their notes. After each time she gave the lecture, students were put back into their breakout rooms to discuss the listening activity. The goal of working with partners was to summarize all of the main points. The instructor ended the class time with students answering three questions in the textbook.

Materials: The instructor used electronic handouts and a textbook for this class.

Student Participation: Students participated in multiple ways during class. As previously mentioned, most of the class time was spent with students in breakout rooms. By working with a peer, students could exchange ideas and help each other. Outside of simply working in pairs, students were also called on by the instructor to answer questions about the activities discussed in their breakout rooms. Other than participating verbally, all students were required to take notes during the class.
