Date/Time: May 5th, 2021, 7:58 A.M. to 8:50 AM

Location: Zoom

Topic/Skill: Basic Greetings, Writing Skills, Vocabulary Review

Feedback Provided to tutee: Je-won did a great job today with understanding basic questions regarding the content is learning in his class. He is very new to the English language, so most of the content he is learning covers colors, numbers, and weather. I wanted to build his conversational skills so I also provided fairly new content concerning feelings/emotions. As we have discussed in TEFL classes, it is very common for even strangers to ask "How are you?". It was also important for me to be able to check-in with Je-won, so I understand how he is feeling every tutoring session.

Lesson about tutoring and/or the tutee learned: Full greetings/emotions, colors, weather, numbers, and American culture.

Tutee: Je-won Lee

Today was the second tutoring session with Je-won. At the end of class on the first session, I asked him to write me some sentences (via e-mail) on the content he was learning in class. This allowed me to understand his writing skills at the moment. For this session, it was important for me to get to know Je-won and to build his confidence. Since the first tutoring session, I wanted the English content taught to be slower for him, as he is very new to the language. Most of the content he is learning is focused on vocabulary. I wanted to incorporate the aspects he has learned, like colors, weather, and money but build his sentences/phrases more. I began with an ice-breaker to understand more of his interests. He would give me a thumbs down or thumbs up for different interests shown on the PowerPoint. For example, I showed him my Nintendo Switch, which he seemed very excited to see. This also gave me the opportunity to incorporate more American culture into the lesson. I showed him images of Disney, SpongeBob, and Marvel. All of these movies and television series are extremely popular in the United States. After the ice-breaker activity, I reviewed the terms he was learning in class. This material covered colors, numbers, and weather. After a brief review, I would show an image and he would tell me in a full sentence, "The color is ___." This bolstered his knowledge by incorporating vocabulary terms with simple sentences. Overall, I believe he did a fantastic job today. I look forward to future tutoring sessions with him.
