Date/Time: May 4th, 2021 from 11:00 A.M. to 11:50 A.M.
Topic Skills: Reading
Teacher Presentation: Ryan Flemming
Classroom Management: All of the students for this class session were attending the class in person. The instructor outlined the activities for the day's lesson and explained a brief overview of the concepts being covered. The lesson for the class was partially an extension of the previous class so the instructor made sure to connect the lessons together before moving on to new material.
Materials: All students attending this class were present in person. The instructor chose to utilize the Zoom Polls function on Zoom to have the student answer questions about the reading passages they were covering. This required all students to use their personal computers to log onto the zoom call. Each student also had an online copy of the reading material and question for the class provided by the instructor on their canvas page.
Student Participation: All of the students in the class were asked to read several passages throughout the lesson and answer question about the topic, main idea, and controlling ideas of the passages. Once students answered the google poll, the instructor would pull up the answers of the questions asked to see which answers the class though were correct. He would then ask for the reasoning behind why certain answers where chosen before going into an explanation about the correct answer choice. The instructor would also have students read certain parts of the passages aloud to the class before the class would join a group discussion about the main ideas and topic of the passage. The consistent involvement of the students in the discussion and the varying topics of the passages (soccer players, nature, media) helped with student engagement and participation.
