Topic/Skill: "If" conditionals

Feedback provided to tutee: I gave a presentation about "If" conditional statements and phrases to my tutee. He has expressed difficulty in using these conditional statements effectively in his writing and speaking. This lesson covered these different used for "If" conditionals and the appropriate verb tenses used in each type. The beginning of the lesson was more lecture based while i was explaining the grammatical concepts. After each concept was introduced, I would share examples of this concept in use and check for basic comprehension before moving on to the next concept. After the presentation, we spent some time practice sentence building with these conditionals to reinforce the information presented at the beginning of the lesson.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that since my tutee is quite advanced, they always ask for deeper meaning and reasoning behind grammatical concepts for a better understanding. This can be intimidating for me, so I found that having grammatical aides like books or website articles with me while I instruct is helpful. I initially felt that not knowing an answer to their questions was embarrassing, but now I know that it is a chance for me to learn as well and there is nothing wrong with looking for a correct answer when I am not sure.
