Topic/Skill: writing, vacation

Feedback provided to tutee: My tutee recently went on vacation, so I used that topic as her prompt and told her to pretend she was journaling about one day of her trip. After, I typed it out and shared my screen. Because she is getting better at recognizing her errors, I simply would highlight a sentence and ask how we could make the sentence better. 9 times out of 10, she corrected it perfectly. I would offer her positive encouragement by saying things like “awesome job” and “perfect” when she corrected the sentences.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that my tutee writes more about topics that she is highly interested in than anything else. She recently went on vacation and wrote for a full 30 minutes about her trip. Usually, she only writes for 15 minutes. She is definitely making progress because she can point out her own mistakes before I ask. I realized from this tutoring session that she may correct things differently than I would, but as long as it’s still correct, there is no need to make her write it my way.
