Location: Conversation over Line

Topic discussed: To start,  Zhou and I went through our normal routine. We discussed how things have been in America and Taiwan, how our own lives are going, if we've done anything interesting, etc. I learned the Taiwan is stepping up their quarantining procedures again since they've had a spike in cases but a delay on vaccines. After that we talked about the people Zhou helped get me in contact with to help complete my tutoring sessions. He was eager to here how they were doing and I was happy to tell him that they were doing well. Both are on a lower level than him but show great promise. Then we talked about television for a while. Zhou told me about how excited he is for the new season of Rick and Morty to come out, but how sad he is that he has to wait to watch it. He also introduced me to this new Taiwanese drama series that is all about firefighters which I definitely plan on checking out.

Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: Thanks to the drama about firefighters I learned that the Taiwanese Firefighter Union is mired by many bureaucratic and social problems (though, I will still plan to watch it to get the full picture). Zhou and I also had the chance to express a bit of language learning solidarity this time. We both realized that we both have a number of words in our target language that we perfectly understand in the target language, but can not easily translate into our native language. We spent a good 20 minutes just trying to mutually translate words.
