Date/Time: June 4 / 1:30 PM
Location: The FSU Rez
Topic Discussed: Multicultural education major, Kuwaiti Food, FulBright, Videography, Arabic culture
Cultural and/or Linguistic Topics you and your partner learned: This week, I spent a few hours at the Rez with all of the international students. Upon arrival, I thought that the event might've gotten cancelled as, 10 minutes past 1:30, no one was there. I finally found Dr. Kennel and we had a discussion about the timeliness of people from other cultures which, especially in many South American countries, can be fairly dismal. Once Aziz and and Husaam arrived, I had the pleasure of indulging in a various Arabic delicacies including Arabic coffee and a rice/chicken dish (that I CANNOT remember the name of...). Aziz and I talked about Judo for a while and his past career and I was introduced to Abduhla, a graduate of the CIES program. We talked for a bit about tattoos in his culture and his plans to pursue biomedical engineering after a close relative had passed away. I also had the chance to play volleyball with and speak with Angel and his many children. We spoke briefly about the multicultural education major and the doors that it could potentially open down the road. All in all, this day was something that I do not get to experience too often. Seeing people from such diverse cultures socialize and enjoy a day on the lake together was truly a beautiful thing and, in my opinion, is the epitome of what CIES aims to teach their students.
