During this conversation partner session with Shatha, we began our conversation mentioning our families as always. The reason this occurs is because right after she asks how I am doing, she then asks about how my mom is doing as well. I think this is a very sweet gesture, and I make sure to ask about her daughters too. She told me about how she wants to put her daughter into a summer camp, but they are too expensive since she is only a student without her own income. We then began to talk about the hardships of being a student who relies on governmental and institutional financial aid. She mentioned a discussion she had during an CIES class about whether or not teenagers should work while they're students. She shares the same opinion of my mom which is that it is more important to focus on your education. Another student responded harshly at that and accused her of having "handouts" and not having the need to make her own money. She was very upset by this because she has to study twice as hard to earn and maintain her scholarships and financial aid.
