During this conversation partner session with Shatha, I was out of the country in Colombia. It was harder to coordinate a meeting time because I seldom have WiFi while I am here. Additionally, I had gotten a cold the day before our meeting, and Shatha was able to immediately recognize it in my congested voice. I assured her I was able to do this session and our conversation began. We shared our love and longing for being around a big family, since we both live in the U.S. away from the majority of our families. She asked me about the Colombian riots and the overall safety of the country, a common question asked by foreigners. I shared my screen to show her the map of Colombia and explained the history of the multiple regions, and which continue to be plagued with violence today. Before we could continue with our conversation, she admitted how bad she felt for me as she watched me struggle to talk while I was sick. She offered to end the session earlier than usual, and I graciously accepted.
