During my last conversation partner session with Shatha, she told me about how she is no longer looking to take the TOEFL exam. The told me she already took another similar exam, but I forgot the name of it. With that exam, she scored a 5 but FSU requires a score of 6.5 from international students. She enrolled in an online course to prepare her for a second attempt of that same exam. With this course, however, it teaches British English rather than American English. Although British English is taught in Middle Eastern schools, Shatha's accent is more American and she is having a hard time to understand the course. While this is our last session, I reminded her that I will be in Tallahassee until December and that I am willing to continue practicing with her. She told me that she does want to keep in touch and finally meet in person when I come back for my fall semester. Besides that, we finished our conversation discussing cultural differences in America that make her feel isolated, like the lack of consideration for people's feelings.
