For this tutoring session with Dave, we picked up from where we left off with our writing prompt exercise from our previous session. His response was very interesting and very comical, because he posed a lot of open-ended questions in his response. I thought this was pretty well-done on his part, and enjoyed going over grammatical rules for posing questions. We went over how he should avoid using contractions in academic writing, and then went over some commonly used contractions and why they are more acceptable when speaking. Additionally, the difference between "it's" and "its" was an important concept to go over. I suggested that he should think aloud how "it's/it is" sounds in a sentence to determine if it is being used correctly. Dave is a very bright kid, and he is able to understand and apply these grammatical rules quickly.
