For my last tutoring session with Dave, I attempted to quickly correct his grammatical errors from the writing prompt practice of our previous tutoring session. After we were done with corrections, I gave him a list of grammatical concepts that troubled him the most throughout all our tutoring sessions. These included commas, particles, uncountable nouns, verb tenses, and transition words and phrases. Once we were done with that, I made sure to reassure Dave about his progress and level of English knowledge. He was a very bright student, and I am sure he will naturally become fluent within the next few years due to his age and involvement at school. Since he has a long summer outside of school, I offered him fun ways to improve his English. I suggested that he should begin reading popular book series for his age like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and The Hunger Games. All these book series have movies as well, and it can be a fun way to spend the summer, especially since he told me that he does not enjoy watching TV series. I also summarized all this in an email to his mother so that she is also reassured of his progress and could get Dave these books. He truly was wonderful and motivated.
