I liked my previous experience with my tutee where I give him a writing prompt for him to answer because it allows me to directly assess his grammar and writing levels and understanding. For this tutoring session, I asked my tutee to write a paragraph about his favorite holiday and why he likes it so much. I verbally explained what I would be looking for, regarding content, and gave him a few examples of holidays that are commonly favored. This is a common prompt that I have been asked about during my previous early education; therefore, I assumed this will be a level-appropriate prompt for my tutee, and one where he can find interest in as he reflects on his customs. I shared my google doc with my tutee so he could write out his response, but he chose to write it elsewhere and then copy and paste it in. I was not expecting for my tutee to take up about 40 minutes, the rest of our tutoring session, to complete this prompt.
