Elaine TS #8
For this tutoring session with Dave, we continued with the writing prompt exercise from our last exercise. In this exercise, Dave's response was more like what I was expecting from him so me providing an example response was essential. This is a common piece of feedback that I receive from my lesson plans, and now I can see why. While we were correcting the grammatical errors, we discussed the two different meanings of "to lie," and how to use punctuation with words in quotation marks. We got stuck, however, with one sentence where I thought he was trying to use figurative language, but Dave was being literal. I spent a long time explaining what figurative language is and when to use it. Afterwards, I felt bad because I bet he was confused since he was being literal. In order to prevent this in future writing exercises, I will make sure to have him verbally expand on his response for me to understand what message his writing is trying to convey.
