Date/Time: June 18, 2021 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Location: Zoom

Topic discussed: Areas in Tallahassee, Hobbies, Films, and Sleep Patterns

Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: In this meeting, we talked about a wide range of aspects of American and Korean culture. The conversation began by talking about places in Tallahassee. He noted in prior conversations that a part of Tallahassee he likes is the nature. I suggested different places to visit like The Sink and Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park. I expressed that these were both places in nature that I love to visit. We also talked about sleep schedules in Korea and the United States. He talked about how he feels like people in South Korea tend to stay up much later than in the United States, which I could understand considering he lived in a major city. We also discussed different genres of films. He talked about different notable American actors that he knew. I mentioned some Korean films I had watched. He mentioned how there are specific film genre patterns in South Korea, which I found really interesting. We both like the thriller genre; however, he did mention that he believes this genre of film is not that large in Korea. One area I thought was interesting was when he was talking about how he believes there is a level of American film influence on film in Korea. I really enjoy watching foreign films, so I found this conversation fascinating. At the end of the meeting, he did mention he wants to grow his vocabulary in transition words he could use in his academic papers. In the next conversation partner meeting, I told him I would give him a document full of different kinds of phrases he could utilize in his writing.
