Feedback provided to the tutee: My tutee was late to this tutoring session so it was shorter than usual; however, as always, we began by reviewing material we covered in the prior tutoring session. For this session, we reviewed directional phrases and vocabulary terms. He learned these concepts rather fast based on how well he was able to respond to the activities we did in the last tutoring session. I was very impressed, as always. We did a smaller activity with directions that was the same as the activity we did in the last session, but it was with a different map that included street names. After this activity to conclude learning directions, we moved on to family terms. Based on diagnostics conducted in the beginning of tutoring, I knew he had some understanding of family-related vocabulary; however, it was not extensive knowledge. The point of this was to reinforce what he had already learned and grow his vocabulary even more. I first introduced basic family vocabulary to him. Afterwards, we did an activity related to a family tree. I find family trees a great way to learn this kind of vocabulary. In my own language studies, I came across a swath of family trees when I was learning these terms. I also asked him questions related to family pets and introduced my own family tree to him. In the upcoming tutoring session, he will work on his own family tree to present!
