 Date: May 18th (12-1pm)

Location: Zoom

Topics Discussed: Religion, holidays, family

Maher and I met the next day after our first meeting because it was the only time he was available. On this day we talked about his religion and the different holidays he celebrates. Maher is Muslim and he recently participated in Ramadan. During Ramadan, Muslims have to fast between sunrise and sunset, meaning they can’t eat until the sun goes down. Maher was telling me that this was extremely difficult to do in Tallahassee, specifically because the sun sets very late as opposed to in Saudi Arabia. Here the sun sets around 8pm, so him and his family could not eat until then. He told me that his whole family participated in Ramadan even his four kids. I asked him if it was difficult to get the kids to participate and he admitted that it is difficult for the kids, especially the little ones. I think that this is amazing though, the determination and will power to do something like this. So, we spent our meeting talking about this and Maher asked me about my religion and if there was any special holidays I celebrated.
