Morgan TS #12
Date/Time: Thursday, June 10th, 6:30 p.m.
Location: Zoom
Topic/Skill: transition words (conversely, consequently, as a result, etc)
Feedback Provided to Tutee: The lesson started with a presentation about transition words and phrases. Hussam is fairly familiar with a lot of these types of words and phrases (firstly, then, after, etc.), but he had requested a lesson to expand his knowledge on this topic to help with his writing. The biggest correction made during this lesson was reminding Hussam that a comma goes after introductory phrases like the ones that are created when using transitional phrases and words.
Lessons about the tutoring and/or the tutee that you learned: I often forget how easy writing is from a native English speaker's point of view is and how naturally these words come. The addition of these more complex transitional words really elevates a piece of academic writing to another level of fluency that is very noticeable. Hussam really picks up on the speech patterns of the students and instructors around him and he will start to experiment with these new ideas. This makes being his tutor really exciting because he is so eager to learn.
